How to use the area codes in Chile

The area code must be used after the prefix number and the country code (when dialing to a foreign country) but before the rest of the numbers. The area code is usually the last code before the rest of the 'personal' phone number.

Call prefix for Chile: 1xx0 (xx = Carrier Selection Code)

You can use the call prefix when you are intside Chile and want to call someone who is outside Chile. If you are outside Chile and want to make a phone call to someone who is in Chile, you first have to look up the right prefix number for that country in the prefix number list (see continental list).
